Founding & History of Kenneth, MN
Kenneth, a city in Vienna township, was platted in 1900 and incorporated on July 20, 1921. Kenneth was named after the son of J. A. Kennicott, owner of a section farm half a mile south of the new town. The city was developed when the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad came through in 1899.
The post office began in 1900 with James L. Hogan as head postmaster. A school was built in 1901. Two churches were in early Kenneth, a Catholic building was moved to town 1903 and the Evangelical Lutheran was built in 1907. The Kenneth State Bank began business in 1901 with R. B. Hinkly as president and A. D. Parker as cashier.

Kenneth is a small residential community today. The population of Kenneth in the 2010 census was 68. The school is now closed. The Kenneth Lutheran church closed recently. The post office operated until 2011.
