The Historical Society has an interview room available for use to conduct a video interview. These interviews capture stories and information that might otherwise be lost.
To set up an interview session(s), contact the Historical Society at (507) 283-2122 or rcmuseum@gmail.com. The Historical Society can arrange for a volunteer to conduct the interview. If necessary to help get the interview started, the volunteer has a set of generic questions that cover six areas of life experiences. When the interview is completed, a DVD of the interview is provided to the customer and the Historical Society keeps a copy. The charge is $25/hour for interviews.
We have conducted over 50 interviews of local citizens. Families are encouraged to set up interviews.
The War
In 2007, the remarkable Ken Burns documentary, The War, was released. Luverne was one of the 4 towns featured in the series. Many episodes featured Quentin Aanenson, a fighter pilot, who grew up in Rock County. Also playing a role in the series were the newspaper columns written by Al McIntosh, the editor of the Star Herald.
As part of the community support of the filming of the series, the Historical Society conducted video interviews of several World War II veterans that were still living. These interviews are part of the Historical Society’s resources.
